Keeping your Child Healthy
Immunizations Protect Children
The rising cost of healthcare need not stop you from making sure that your child receives the immunizations recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics for children from 0-6 years of age.
Low Cost Healthcare Options for NJ Residents
New Jersey offers several levels of assistance for families who are struggling to find an answer to the rising cost of healthcare. Eligibility requirements are based upon income, family size and age. Families earning below 350% of the federal poverty level may be eligible for Medicaid or NJ Family Care.
Medicaid is designed to help the neediest in our state. This federal-state health care program pays for hospital stays, doctor visits, prescriptions, nursing home costs and other healthcare needs.
NJ FamilyCare is a federal and state funded health insurance program created to help New Jersey's uninsured children and certain low-income parents and guardians to have affordable health coverage. It is not a welfare program. NJ FamilyCare is for families who do not have available or affordable employer insurance, and cannot afford to pay the high cost of private health insurance. Income Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare must be uninsured and must be citizens or legal immigrants who have documentation that permits them to stay in the United States permanently.
There are several ways for you to get more information. For more information about Medicaid specifically you can contact your county Board of Social Services or call the Medicaid Hotline 1-800-356-1561. To learn more about Medicaid and NJ FamilyCare click HERE or call

You can also get information by visiting NJHelps.org, where you can self-screen for eligibility for NJ FamilyCare and Medicaid, as well as many other social service programs.
NJ FamilyCare Advantage is run by Horizon NJ Health and is an expansion of the NJ FamilyCare program for families that make above 350% of the poverty line. If you meet eligibility requirements, this plan will provide lower cost health coverage for children under the age of 19. You can access an application online or request one from Horizon NJ Health at 1-800-637-2997.
