Heightened Functionality and Ease of Use Make the NJ 2-1-1 Database
an Essential Tool for Busy Professionals
The NJ 2-1-1 Community Catalog holds so much potential for professionals who are busy looking for ways to help their clients. If used to its fullest, you will come to depend on the breadth of knowledge that you are able to access with just a few keystrokes.
For starters, it provides you with an easy way to update your agency and program information as well as add new programs in just a few minutes. By doing so you will ensure that other agency professionals throughout the state know exactly what your programs have to offer, what the eligibility requirements are and how to best contact you.
You’ll be able to learn the same about other agencies’ programs and with that knowledge you will be better equipped to help your clients find the services they need.
The Community Catalog offers useful links that connect people to the larger world. Mapping functionality can be used by you to provide directions from a client's home to your agency either by car, by foot, or by public transit. Census information is also just a click away. This attribute will make it possible for you to easily access vital statistics that are so important when writing grants or performing need assessment studies in your area. It is our goal to continue to enhance this portion of the site.
In an effort to assist you in making the most of this resource tool, we have created this Q&A page, devoted to answering specific "How To" questions. We encourage you to submit your questions to us at info@nj211.org.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I learned recently that the Community Catalog contains census data for my county. How do I access this information?
A: Census data is in the Community Catalog under any program listing. If you search for one of the programs within your agency you will find the information in the “Contact Info” tab of the first program window. Go to the line that says “Located within” followed by blue lettering that specifies the geographic area. Click on the “Located within” link and you will open up a window that provides census information for that area. There are other links available in this new window that will provide census data for other cities, the county, the state and the nation. We hope to add other demographic studies in the coming months. This information is especially useful when you are writing grants and need local demographics.
