U.S. Department of State
Inquiries concerning U.S. citizens living or traveling in the affected country should be referred to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services at 1.888.407.4747. When contacting the State Department, please have the following information on hand:
- The full name, date of birth and passport information (if known) of the person you are trying to contact.
- Their contact information in the country (telephone numbers, e-mail address, hotel name or address (if known)).
- Your name and contact information, and your relationship to the person (parent, spouse, friend, etc.).
- Any special or emergency circumstances.

It is available in multiple languages. The information given on the website is not confidential and can be viewed by anyone. The majority of postings on the Restoring Family Links website are from people who are searching for loved ones.
