Know it Before You Need it
NJ 211 has an automated text messaging platform (ATMP) designed to prepare New Jersey residents for emergencies and keep them informed when disaster strikes. To opt-in, text ReadyNJ to 898-211.
When you do this, you will receive a few automated text messages asking for your zip code and assessing your physical vulnerability to emergencies. If you have special needs, we will then educate you and even offer to assist you in enrolling in NJ Register Ready, New Jersey's Special Needs Registry for Disaster Planning.
During times when there is no emergency, NJ 211's ATMP is used as an educational tool sending brief, periodic (once or twice a month) seasonal messages about preparedness and other essential services. However, should disaster strike, those who have opted into the ReadyNJ system will seamlessly be alerted to the disaster and will begin to receive critical information regarding safety, evacuation, road closures, sheltering and more. ReadyNJ was conceived and designed to keep New Jersey residents informed both during and after the disaster. The option to speak with a live specialist at NJ 211 is always available by dialing 2-1-1.
