Resources that Build Efficiencies and Credibility
Non-profit agencies in New Jersey (and everywhere else) are working with serious budget constraints. With that in mind we are devoting this page of our site to the posting of resources that focus on issues which leaders in the non-profit world have to grapple with daily...things like how to build efficiencies into your work flow; stretch your limited funds; find new sources of revenue; achieve best practices, adhere to ethical standards, and more. Please help us by sharing resources that you have discovered and found useful. Send your recommendations to us today.
Social Network Links Non-Profits with Skilled Volunteers - Sparked is a for-profit social enterprise that was created to link microvolunteers (busy professionals who have a limited amount of time but are willing to share their skills) with non-profit organizations around the world that need help. Here is how it works: Microvolunteers set up a profile that includes their skills and organizations post "challenges" to the network. Challenges are small projects - such as "Can you design a new logo for our non-profit?" When a microvolunteer logs into Sparked, the challenge-matching engine recommends a series of challenges based on the person's skills and interests profile. They use this same engine to select and e-mail a "Weekly Challenge" to all microvolunteers. Answers to challenges are provided exclusively via e-mail and the web interface. Challenges typically take between 10 minutes and 2 hours to complete.
With Sparked, busy professionals can use their skills in creative design, marketing, strategy, media relations, tech, and more, to help non-profits around the world solve challenges. Sparked helps non-profits increase their capacity by giving them a no-cost, low-maintenance management tool through which to post requests for help to thousands of skilled professionals, bringing new supporters into the mix and getting more work done for free.
Free Legal Services and Advice for Non-Profits - The Pro Bono Partnership provides free legal assistance to nonprofit organizations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and has launched their new website to provide easy access to a broad range of business legal advice. Nonprofits can contact Partnership staff attorneys through the site to apply for legal services on a wide range of business issues or for answers to quick questions. The site provides answers to frequently asked questions and a collection of articles on legal topics. For training about their legal obligations, nonprofits can also register through the site for workshops, like "Board Responsibilities in Challenging Times," "Ins and Outs of Government Contracting;" or "Three Cups of Lessons: A Teachable Moment for Nonprofits."
