Families who are having trouble affording food or gifts this holiday season may find relief from local resources. When searching the NJ 2-1-1 Resource Database use the following search terms in the search bar at the top of this page: 

  • For holiday gift giving programs, use: holiday toys
  • For meals for the holidays use: Thanksgiving meals; Christmas meals; Christmas baskets; Thanksgiving baskets
  • To find out where to donate meals or toys: holiday donations

In addition to what is listed in our database, we have received information from local churches and other organizations who are hosting programs this year. Whether you are looking for assistance or searching for a good place to make a holiday donation, our Holiday Assistance Programs list at the bottom of this page is a great place to start. 

All locations followed by an asterisk (*) have been verified this year. Those that could not be reached by phone have a notation reflecting that we are awaiting confirmation. 

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army of Perth Amboy offers an Angel Tree program for the Christmas season. Families who live in Perth Amboy and are in need can come and sign up their children to receive a toy for the holidays.

Eligibility: Open to families with children up to the age of 12.

Application: Interested applicants must visit the office in order to register for the program. Registration takes place ONLY one day of October. Call for information.

South Plainfield Social Services runs a Thanksgiving food program and Christmas gift program for South Plainfield residents in need. Volunteers are needed for holiday packing.

Eligibility: The Thanksgiving program is available to South Plainfield residents in need. For holiday gifts/toy assistance, the program is geared towards families in South Plainfield only.

Food baskets are distributed to families in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Christmas baskets may also include gifts for children. Distribution takes place the Friday or Saturday before the holiday. Call for more information. Apply with referrals through schools, Social Services Department, Senior Center or through a referral form available on MHIO website.

Project Paul coordinates a Thanksgiving food and Christmas gift program for Keansburg residents in need.

Interested applicants must visit the office (By October) to become a client of Project Paul before determining eligibility. Documents are required for this application process.

Project Paul clients must apply by November and should bring ID and Project Paul card.

Operation Sleighbells is an annual holiday gift-giving project that provides more than 1,500 children with the gifts of warm clothing, toys and books each year. Families from communities throughout Monmouth County register with Family & Children’s Service to receive much-needed items.

Madonna House runs a Christmas gift program for children, ages 3 through 12, and their mothers who are in need. New toys and clothing that are donated through community resources are given to participants in the program. Donations are always welcomed. Open to children, ages 3 through 12, and their mothers in Monmouth County who are in need. Applicants are required to come in before December to pick up a set of instructions. All applicants must follow the agency's guidelines to be registered for the program. USDA and SFPP foods are open to all individuals.
